702, Mil Mi-17 helicopter demo flight

This demo flight took place during the Day of the Hungarian Defence Forces in Budaörs. The purpose of this three-day event was to show the future military equipment for the public and was to raise the interest of youngsters. Besides the air force, ground and special forces were shown. This helicopter started to fly in 1988 in Szentkirályszabadja, as one of the few brand-new Mil helicopters in the fleet of the 87th Combat Helicopter Regiment. In 2004 the Regiment was liquidated, the aircraft and the staff were dislocated to Szolnok Airbase. Since then, all military helicopters are located there, just like the 702 too. This particular helicopter was overhauled in Russia in 2017. Mil Mi-17 (HIP) is a medium twin-turbine transport helicopter. It was designed in the Soviet Union, manufactured in two factories: Kazan and Ulan-Ude. Developed from the basic Mi-8 airframe, with more powerful Klimov TV3-117MT engines, the rotor system, the transmission and the fuselage were also improved
