Petula Clark - Downtown (1964) 4K

Petula Clark performing “Downtown“, released originally in 1964. It reached #1 in US Billboard Hot 100, #1 in Canada Top Singles, #1 in West Germany, #1 in New Zealand Charts, and #2 in UK Singles Charts. “Downtown“ was written by Tony Hatch, who wrote most of Clark’s material during the ’60s. This was Clark’s first hit in the US, although she was already a star in the UK as a singer and a television performer. She also caught on in France in the early ’60s when she started recording her songs in French. The song won a Grammy in 1965 for Best Rock & Roll Recording, making Clark the first British singer to win a Grammy. In 2003, the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Clark recorded this song when she had already carved out a successful career in French, Italian, and German-speaking territories. Hatch suggested that she should start recording again in English. Clark agreed and asked him to write a lyric up to the standard of the tune. This led to the creation of “Downtown.“ Enjoy more of the best 1960s Music Digitally Remastered in 4K: Listen to Petula Clark online: Spotify - iTunes - Classic Hits Studio is a specialized digital remastering studio based in New Zealand.
