The Buick Wildcat was a series of high-performance muscle cars produced by Buick from 1962 to 1970. It was essentially a sportier version of the Buick Invicta and was available as both a two-door hardtop and a convertible. The first generation of the Buick Wildcat was introduced in 1962 and was based on the Buick Invicta. It featured a powerful 401 cubic inch () Nailhead V8 engine that produced 325 horsepower, which was later increased to 425 horsepower in 1964 with the introduction of the Wildcat 465. The Wildcat also came with a heavy-duty suspension, power brakes, and power steering, making it a true muscle car of its time. In 1965, the Buick Wildcat was completely redesigned and became a standalone model, no longer based on the Invicta. The second generation of the Wildcat was available with a larger 425 cubic inch () V8 engine, which produced up to 360 horsepower. The car was also available with a variety of luxurious options, such as power windows, air conditioning, and a tilt steering wheel. The Buick Wildcat continued to be produced until 1970, when it was discontinued in favor of the Buick Riviera. Despite its short lifespan, the Wildcat left a lasting impression on the automotive world as a true American muscle car.
