Niger: Former colonial power France to withdraw military troops | DW News

Niger’s military rulers have welcomed an announcement by France that it will withdraw its troops from the country. Niger’s democratically elected president Mohamed Bazoum was ousted on the 26th of July and replaced by the commander of an elite military unit. Since then, the junta has ended Niger’s military cooperation with France, a former colonial power. French president, Emmanuel Macron said 1,500 French soldiers will withdraw by the end of the year. For more on this, we talk to General Dominique Trinquand. He is a former chief of the UN French military mission and joins us from Paris.
