Full title reads: “Pathetone now has pleasure in presenting. John Stein and his Novelty Orchestra (from the Dorchester Hotel, London) in Sous Les Toits de Paris“. Pathe Studios, London and library footage of Paris, France. Panning shot over rooftops of Paris. Various shots of Stein conducting his small orchestra of violinists, pianists, cellist, double bass, acoustic guitar, drummer and an accordion. They wear peasant style shirts with billowing sleeves. The play a tune that starts as vaguely traditional French Cafe-type music before breaking into a more upbeat samba tempo (“Sous Les Toits de Paris“). Stein takes to the piano and three percussionists step forward beating out a rhythm on maracas, wooden sticks and a horse’s skull.
