Dr Donda West: “On Raising Kanye“

Full recording of Dr Donda West’s keynote address at the 17th Gwendolyn Brooks Writers’ Conference. Recorded on October 19, 2007 a few weeks before her death. The speech features references to hip-hop artists, social justice, poetry and the upbringing that made Kanye West the man he is today. The speech was later sampled prominently on Kanye’s tenth studio album dedicated to his later mother ’DONDA’. This recording was uploaded as part of Chicago Statue University’s records and is featured here with subtitles in the interest of spreading her message and building upon Kanye’s legacy.
