Watch Kevin Romy of Switzerland’s awesome soccer-skate pass in IIHF worlds With his stick shattered and the puck headed his way, a Swiss player is forced to get creative. Once again, soccer skills hit the ice with nearly amazing results. Last weekend, it was Ilya Kovalchuk’s header that nearly kept the puck in play at the blue line for the New Jersey Devils. On Tuesday, it was Kevin Romy of Switzerland booting the puck to a teammate with his skate. Happens every game, right? Well, sure, but it usually doesn’t beat two defensemen to spark a breakaway chance. (The play starts at the 27-second mark of the clip.) Romy broke his stick, dropping it to the ice. The puck deflected off the twig, slowed down and Romy then kicked it through the neutral zone to his teammate. Damien Brunner nearly completed the short-handed scoring attempt, but Kari Lehtonen made a solid stop, keeping Romy’s pass off the score sheet. Finland won the game, 5-2.
