I Say a Little Prayer - Aretha Franklin (Roger Hawkins Drum Cover)

Yesterday Roger Hawkins died at 75 years old. Rest In Peace drum brother. Roger was the original swampers and drummer for the famed Muscle Shoals rhythm section. His drumming was an important part of Aretha Franklins earliest hits ... like this song! This song is another Aretha Franklin cover with the great Roger Hawkins on drums. I remember when I read modern drummer back in the 80s and discovered Roger Hawkins played on all of these great songs! Roger played on hits by Wilson Pickett, Paul Simon, Steve Winwood with Traffic, Bob Seager, and so many more! One of my greatest compliments I got on the bandstand was from the bass player in the band Blvd. East who used to call me Roger Hawkins ...he’d say give me that fatback Roger Hawkins groove Earl! I knew that pocket was important ... Roger Hawkins was all about the pocket ... he was the definition of pocket drumming. I was saving this one for some reason, but today this cover is for Roger Hawkins. Check him out! Enjoy!
