TRAGEDY IN PERU

It happened in Northern Peru, beside the country’s highest mountain, Mount Huascaran: an avalanche of snow, ice and rock swept down on a village, which was totally destroyed. The death roll has been put at 3,000, but it’s still too soon to tell. Near-by communities in other villages have been evacuated. Their homes too, were threatened by the melting snows on the mountain. The disaster is a repetition of the 1941 tragedy, in which 5,000 lost their lives.
