Flash floods wreak havoc in Oman

Heavy rainfall has triggered widespread flash floods in Oman, killing at least 17, according to the country’s National Committee for Emergency Management (NCEM). The Omani government has responded to the disaster by telling workers to remain home and closing schools in affected areas. Dozens have been left stranded following the floods, but many weren’t so fortunate. There are reports of several vehicles (and their occupants) being swept away in the rising floodwaters, and the bodies of some of the victims, including several children, have been recovered by authorities. Rescue operations are underway across Oman as authorities address the impact of the severe weather conditions. More rain is forecast in the coming days.
