Shop: My Instagram: This Muay Thai sparring drill is designed to help you develop confidence in your guard when you are sparring. By building confidence in your guard it will allow you to fight without fear because you know that you can block whatever offense your opponent throws at you. This drill will help you develop confidence in your guard. It is ideal for beginners who are learning how to spar and have fear of being punched. The Drill: Step 1. With a partner take turns punching at each others guard. One person will attack, then the other person will attack. You are not trying to aim your punches at their head, just aim your shots at their guard. That way if your partner doesn’t block it won’t land on their face. Step 2. Start off throwing your punches with full control and slow. Gradually you can start increasing the speed of the punches when you start feeling comfortable. Step 3. You can also start throwing different combinations at your partner so they are used to seeing different shots coming in your direction. This will help you learn how to block hooks, uppercuts and punches that are not coming straight at you. Step 4. You can start adding more power when you feel more comfortable. The goal of this drill is to help you develop confidence in your guard that you can withstand hard punches. Beginners should only go at a controlled pace and never throw hard punches. Keep Point - Keep your eyes open when you are blocking attacks. This will help you to prevent the natural urge to close your eyes when you are blocking incoming attacks.
