Millions of electronic products self-destruct? | The Sticky Gooey Plastic Affair [2023]

Over the past two years, I noticed many of my sometimes older but perfectly functioning and often expensive electronic devices becoming unusable due to a sticky, gooey plastic housing that seems to self-destruct. The first two products happened to I tried a “repair“ with a mix of baking soda and water, which does work quite well if you can take the case completely off. However, over time more and more products showed up with the same issue, and some of them were more expensive products like my $1000 Fuji camera or various of my Zoom Audio recorders and with many buttons and switches, it’s nearly impossible to clean the products (not to mention you will take all the writing of the cover). The sticky, gooey plastic affair affects millions of products in every price range. Do you reckon it’s acceptable that perfectly working products become unusable after x years because of the plastic housing self-destructing?
