Abba - Happy New Year

This performance of Happy New Year was recorded in Stockholm on November 27 1980 and is known as “Abba Around the Piano“. It became the official tv version of this song and was sold to numerous countries. Abba wished viewers a Happy New Year in several languages prior to this performance. It was broadcast at midnight on New Year’s Eve 1980 in Sweden and France to bring in the New Year and has since been shown in Sweden on every New Year’s Eve at midnight! This recording was made after Abba had earlier performed 3 songs for Show Express, which was broadcast live by satellite link to West German tv. These were The Winner Takes It All, Super Trouper and On And On And On. Abba were forced to cancel their planned trip to Germany for recording Show Express after kidnap threats to Björn and Agnetha’s children were received. Frida and Agnetha changed their outfits for this song, Benny and Bjorn flew to Barbados in January 1980 for a song writing holiday hoping for some creative music
