Ondine is a romantic three-act magic opera by the German musician ETA Hoffmann (1776 - 1822). Although Hoffmann was also a great poet, he had his friend Friedrich de la Motte Fouqué write the libretto, according to his own fairytale short story. Des profondeurs du lac, les appels d’avertissement des esprits de l’eau atteignent à plusieurs reprises les oreilles d’Ondine, mais elle y reste sourde et accepte volontiers l’invitation du Chevalier. Lorsque le couple d’amoureux revient dans la cabane du pêcheur, ils découvrent un visiteur, le Père Heilmann, religieux en pèlerinage qui s’y est arrêté. Cet évènement convient très bien à Ondine et Huldbrand. Sans plus tarder, ils lui demandent de les marier. Les parents adoptifs d’Ondine n’ayant pas d’objection, leur alliance est prononcée. Au matin, Ondine, Huldbrand et le Père partent pour le château du Chevalier, secrètement suivis par Kuehleborn, toujours inquiet pour sa nièce et prêt à l’aider. Au chateau, Ondine rencontre Berthalda, fille adoptive des châtelains ... virtuellement la promise du chevalier ....
