Rerberg and Tarkovsky - The Reverse Side of “Stalker“

Directed by Igor Mayboroda, this documentary (released in 2009) tells the story of the unique, but short-lived, relationship between one of the greatest directors of all time, Andrei Tarkovsky, and the cinematographer, Georgi Rerberg, who shot perhaps his greatest film, “Mirror“. It covers the notoriously difficult production of Tarkovsky’s film “Stalker“, which would ultimately bring what many believe to have been one of the most creative collaborations in cinematic history to an end. Featuring interviews with many close friends and collaborators, this film covers a range of topics, including the difficult working conditions within the film industry during the thaw of the Soviet Union, and the oftentimes destructive artistic temperament of Tarkovsky himself.
