Альбом экспедиции Седова на Северный полюс в 1912 - 1914 годах Album of the Sedov expedition to the North Pole 1912 - 1914 Music: Andante & Variation in B major by Anton Arensky Senior lieutenant Georgy Yakovlevich Sedov (1877-1914), a hydrograph and geodesist, devoted a considerable part of his activity to the exploration of the Northern Sea Route, which was to the north of Siberia. Son of a poor fisherman, Sedov achieved the rank of an officer of the Russian Imperial Navy, which was unprecedented for a man of such humble origins. In August 1912 the expedition members left Arkhangelsk on the sailing ship “Holy Martyr Phocas“ with the intention to reach Franz Josef Land, then to reach the North Pole with dog sleds. The expedition relied on private funds, which led to its failure due to lack of food and fuel.
