THE SEA TURTLE (from the album Dancing Alone)

This song was written as a lullaby, and is based upon a poem by the great Persian poet, Hafiz, who was born in the city of Shiraz in the year 1315. Hafiz wrote, “I am like a magnificent, magical, ocean turtle Setting aside his dazzling wings of blue Crawling upon your shores To bury the divine seed of verse.” This is one of fourteen songs from the album, DANCING ALONE, inspired by the works of four 12th and 13th century Persian Sufi poets: Rumi, Attar, Hafiz and Iraqi. I made the album for myself with no intention of releasing it, and it sat on a shelf for several years - until now. For anyone interested, it can be downloaded from all the major digital music providers. The two main instruments you hear in the recording are the Ethervox MIDI theremin made by Robert Moog in the late 1990’s, and the Indian “surbahar”.
