JÜRGEN | Part Four: The Summit

If Jürgen Klopp was asked to produce a docu-series about himself, how would he go about it? We think Jürgen would tell the stories of the people and places that have influenced and impacted him throughout his career as a football player and manager. Supported by ERDINGER, The Anfield Wrap travelled to Glatten, Frankfurt, Mainz, Dortmund and around Liverpool to hear unique stories from the German’s journey, told by those who know him best. The five part docu-series explores five recurring themes throughout Jürgen’s story -- challenge, culture, journey, winning and legacy -- and features footballers that played with and under him, friends that stood by his side through thick and thin, colleagues that helped him move to the next level and the fans that gave him their undying support throughout. In the fourth instalment of our documentary series on the career of Jürgen Klopp we look into his biggest wins at Liverpool, Borussia Dortmund and Mainz 05. From the lows of defeat in Kyiv, The Reds bounced back from a 0-3 deficit in Barcelona to complete the greatest comeback Anfield has ever seen, before lifting the club’s sixth European Cup in Madrid. The following season they went 27 games unbeaten to romp to a first Premier League title that even a global pandemic couldn’t take away from them. Klopp of course already had a strong reputation before he arrived on Merseyside because of his success with BVB, no less their back-to-back Bundesliga-winning seasons in 2011 and 2012, putting a halt to Bayern Munich’s reign of dominance in Germany. And of course, it was his time in Mainz that started the whole thing. After missing out on promotion twice in the most heartbreaking circumstances, his team managed to secure it at the third time of asking and in the most dramatic way on the final day of the 2003-4 season.
