≈ History ≈ {adapted from All Music Guide & } Modern Japanese composer Takashi Yoshimatsu {吉松隆} was born in 1953 in Tokyo. He entered Keio University as an engineering student but turned to music in 1972, teaching himself composition and studying with Teizo Matsumara. Yoshimatsu initially performed with jazz and rock bands in his 20s before turning to concert music. By 1980, Yoshimatsu won the Japan Symphony Foundation Prize and in 1981 composed one of his first well-known works - the serialist
