Rescue training for Team Alaska continues. Our rescue nets are custom-built and have saved thousands of seals. A bit of practice and training is needed to use them properly. The zippers are strong, but they are under a lot of pressure once the seal is trapped. Sometimes sand or the animal’s fur gets stuck. Also, we cannot influence how the seal positions itself. If the tag, the knotted part of the fishing line entanglement, is located on the side of the net, we have to open up the net and roll the seal on its side to have better access. Luckily Chelsea and Dallas have plenty of experience with seals and are not scared to join the action and help save lives!
