How to find a film scanner that fits your needs

In today’s episode, Jules and I tackle one of the most requested topics: scanning. We look at how difficult it can be to the right scanner for your needs and share our personal journeys. Jules and I represent different ends of the spectrum. Jules has a professional background in printing (especially pre-press) and had access to professional-scale scanners early on in his career. So when it came to his own scanners, he wanted something unlike most typical film shooters. I, on the other hand, had very limited knowledge of scanners and just looked for something small that I can easily put away again, for instance. It also needed to support all formats I am shooting and be compatible with current software and interfaces. In the course of this video we look at three major categories of scanners and one representative per category. We compare the unedited results of these very different scanners, their speed and overall handling. We selected rather random holiday pictures and portraits for the comparison because they represent our typical use cases and we wanted to keep it realistic.
