In 1999, I made this horror film about a murderous dummy head controlled by a mysterious man in black trench coat, inspired by the Neighborhood Watch signs.
It was shot on VHS, and edited with two VCR’s which naturally causes “generation loss“ where the video/audio quality degrade. Furthermore, the only way I knew how to turn the footage B&W was to point the camera at the TV screen, and turn the color knob down. As a result, the TV pixels and scan lines further degraded the footage. For a while, I thought of it as a cool aesthetic, but more than 20 years later, I felt it was worth doing a remaster. To do this, I had to painstakingly rescan over 10 hours of raw footage and re-edit the movie from scratch.
I also shortened it to 20 minutes. The original edit was nearly an hour. I feel that the shorter run time helps keep the excitement up and flows better. I consider this to be the definitive version, but you can still see one of the older versions on the Cinemassacre Plays channel.
