André Bertel | Karate | Full Bodyweight Kicks & Punches
Use your support leg and full body weight to drastically increase the impact and power of your Karate techniques.
It is not the punching arm or the kicking leg that matters, it is the leg that you are standing on! Compress and bend it before you start your technique (punch or kick) and then expand the leg with maximum power and drive your whole body towards the target. By this, your Karate will change from nice looking (ineffective?) Sports Karate to Martial Arts Karate for actual self-defense.
In this restored video from 2010, André Bertel sensei explains how it works.
00:00 Gyaku-zuki & Oi-zuki
01:00 Keri-waza (kicking techniques)
02:33 Mawashi-geri & Ura-mawashi-geri
03:12 Driving leg & hip importance
