한영 문화교류 앞장서는 Paul Clementson 주한 영국문화원장
Hello and welcome to yet another edition of Issues and Insiders.
Today I have the pleasure of speaking to the head of the British Council here in Korea as Seoul and London celebrate a hundred and 40 years of diplomatic relations this year.
I have Director Paul Clementson here in the studio.
Director Clementson a very warm welcome to you.
1) Director Clementson, Korea and the U.K. are celebrating 140 years of diplomatic relations this year, and in light of this occasion, President Yoon Suk Yeol is currently on a state visit to the U.K. at the invitation of King Charles III.
What do you believe are the broader implications of this visit on bilateral ties?
2) Director Clementson, prior to President Yoon’s state visit, King Charles III made his way to London’s Korea Town for a taste of Korean culture.
What impact does the growing popularity of K-entertainment look to have on bilateral ties?
3) Director Clementson, pundits say soft power in the form of cultural interactions can play a pivotal part in bridging differences.
What do you say?
4) Director Clementson, what do you suppose has been the driving force behind diplomatic relations between Seoul and London over the past century and roughly a half?
5) And now, Director Clementson, let’s speak about the organization that you currently head.
First then, what is the general purpose of the British Council, and what distinguishes your Council here in Korea from its counterparts elsewhere?
6) Director Clementson, I understand British Council Korea is also celebrating its 50th birthday here.
What does the Council’s agenda include this year to better commemorate this milestone?
7) Director Clementson, has Korea’s interest in British culture and education been consistent over the years or have there been fluctuations?
And how do you explain this trend?
8) Director Clementson, some say Korea, for its part, needs to boost access to learning opportunities for those overseas interested in this country.
Speaking within your capacity as head of the British Council here, what do you propose to expand such learning opportunities in general?
9) Director Clementson, you’ve been assigned to different parts of the world over the course of your career.
That being said, what aspect of Korea do you care to highlight as unique?
10) Director Clementson, let’s end with some details about your future broader plans within the Council.
All right.
