Russian woman ’embalmed alive’ after surgical mistake

Ekaterina Fedyaeva, 28, was scheduled for a routine procedure to remove ovarian cysts. During the operation, Russian state news reported, medical personnel made a mistake. They allegedly administered formalin, a preservative, instead of saline. Formalin contains formaldehyde, which is used to preserve dead bodies. Fedyaeva died Thursday. A criminal investigation has been opened.
