Islamic State hit by airstrike near Kobane - dramatic video

This is Tel Shair mountain, which overlooks the besieged town of Kobane on the Syrian side of the Turkish border. It was taken by Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, also known as Isis, two weeks ago, and then retaken by the Kurdish militia the YPG on October 14 after the US-led air strikes helped turn the tide of battle inside the town in the Kurds’ favour. On Thursday morning, Isil succeeded in driving the Kurds off it. But as night fell, an air strike made a direct hit, sending a huge fireball into the sky. A photographer captured the explosion on camera, as several militiamen, who had been seen manning the post under the jihadist group’s black flag, fled back down the hill.
