Karin ensemble - Amran gisher (Armenian folk song)

Amran gisher (Ամռան գիշեր - Summer night) Armenian folk dance-song, legacy from historical Shatakh (Šatax). The song depicts an old Armenian village where after the hard day work the villagers have gathered in a house or yard and enjoy the peaceful summer night as the moon shines pleasantly. Armenian myths, legends, fairy-tales, songs and dances were born and passed down from generation to generation during such nights. The song seems to be sung by a man as in all the stanzas young women are praised. In the pleasant moonlight different people are gathered, old and young, male and female. And young women sift flour probably to make a traditional cake for the guests. While they are sifting a man notices that their breasts are shaking. In the next stanza the singer says that the moon rays have entered the house through the skylight. Having finished the sifting now the young women are busy with grinding grain with a hand millstone. So they are working and the young men’s hearts are burning with fire
