In this episode, our teacher will give you a detailed explanation of how to trace the outlines with gold. The Sheng Hui Lian is a dignified and gracious lotus from the Western Pure Land, therefore it is important to accentuate its outlines with gold to manifest its elegance. Please practice these techniques at home, and if you have any questions, feel free to contact us in the comment section. We will get back to you promptly. We are the Chen Yu-Yuan Buddhist Art Association. Our main goals are to introduce painting Buddhas as a dharma gate and to cultivate Buddhist painting teachers. We hope that this dharma gate will ensure all hearts to be purified and for a pure land to be created. To build foundation, we would start with painting the lotus to introduce some fundamental ideas of the meticulous painting style and demonstrate techniques that later on will be used for painting Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. In the 【Sheng Hui Lian】series, we will show you step by step on how to paint the sacred lotus, Sheng Hui Lian, in order for you to become familiarized with some basic painting skills. “Sheng“ means holy, sacred; “Hui“ means wisdom, and “Lian“ means lotus. The Sheng Hui Lian is the first painting for all students in the painting classes of our association. In later series, we will teach you how to paint Buddhas and Bodhisattvas using these techniques in more advanced ways. Painting Buddhas is one of the many dharma gates that will lead us to liberation. It is rare and requires practice and persistence. The painting itself can inspire others to admire and praise the Buddha’s many virtues. Furthermore, in the process of painting a Buddha (or a Bodhisattva), one can chant the Buddha’s name, contemplate on the image of the Buddha, and reflect on the Buddha. By being mindful on the above while painting, one can acquire Dharma joy and may reach meditative concentration. Our association has over forty Buddhist painting classes from northern to southern Taiwan. All of our teachers teach as volunteers and are compassionate, patient and giving. You are more than welcome to join us and learn the sacred art of Buddhist painting. Feel free to like and share. Amitabha!
