Flying Fish / Igillena Maluwo (2011) Sanjeewa Pushpakumara Uncut version
Set in an eastern Sri Lankan village during an age of civil war between Sinhalese and Tamils, “Flying Fish“ is composed from the stories of three people. The first is 23-year-old Wasana. She becomes pregnant to her older boyfriend, a soldier... The second is a 15-year-old boy who works in a fish market to support his family after the death of his father... The third is a 13-year-old Tamil girl. One day the anti-government Tamil Tigers come to her home and demand money from her parents... With its beautiful imagery and searing depictions of violence, this is an explosion of anger toward the human degradation caused by civil war.
