Cherubic Hymn Oktavist Exclamation: Vladimir Pasyukov

Composer: Pavel Chesnokov Basso Profundo: Vladimir Pasyukov (1944-2011) Performed by The Male Choir of St. Petersburg under Vadim Afanasiev Audio remastered by Peder Holman: A video that highlights the dark sonorous voice that is Vladimir Pasyukov. Pasyukov was a Russian choral bass. His singing voice would be classified as a basso profundo, which means: “deep or exceptionally low bass“. This type of voice is amazing because these deep basses are capable of singing lower than typical bass repertoire while maintaining volume and resonance. In this video, Pasyukov sings B1 (≈) throughout and chants down to Ab1(≈) twice. It’s important to note that this voice sings low without the aid of amplification. There are other profundi in the world, but Pasyukov’s distinction lies within the timbre of his voice. He has a big, soft, and dark quality that other bass voices don’t always carry consistently.
