The various ‘colors’ of water, a river as tranquil as it is powerful – that’s the topic this piece by contemporary composer Gotthard Odermatt is painting with sound. Fleuve tranquille et puissant is brought to life by the outstanding artistry of one of the greatest woodwind players of today: Albrecht Mayer. As tender, floating and melodic as ever, this master musician is amply showcasing how poignant and contemplative contemporary music can be.
