Russia: Bombing for gold - Russia’s mining season blasts off

Gold miners in the Magadan Region prepared for the start of the new mining season by blasting huge layers of earth on Wednesday. Extracting precious metals from the permafrost is extremely difficult as the ice thaws to a depth of one metre ( feet), even over the summer months.
