Brazil releases antidengue mosquitos

Thousands of dengue-inhibiting mosquitos were released in Rio de Janeiro this week to fight the disease that is running rampant in parts of South America. According to the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), more than 3.5 million cases and over 1,000 deaths have been reported in the region so far this year. That’s triple the number reported during the same period in 2023. The PAHO is urging immediate action, prompting Brazil, the hardest hit country, to step up its efforts. Lucrecia Franco reports from Rio de Janeiro.
