The solar term of Da Han (Severe Cold)

Da Han, the last solar term in the twenty-four solar terms, falls between January 19th and 21st each year, when the Big Dipper points to Chou, and the sun is at the celestial longitude of 300 degrees. Due to the influence of cold air masses from Siberia, the East Asian region typically experiences its coldest period of the year during this time. Recent meteorological observations show that in some parts of China, Da Han is not colder than Xiao Han. However, in certain years and in a few coastal areas, the lowest temperatures of the year still occur within the Da Han solar term.
