An automaton depicting a small family business in the days before health and safety regulations. The machines are run by an ancient beam engine which has been converted to work on compressed air provided by the man in the basement with the large bellows. Another man frantically pulls ropes which cause other machines to turn, and upstairs the engineer balances precariously on a stack of barrels and planks in order to attend to a problem with a bearing, using his trusty big hammer and an oily rag.
