George Harrison - Bangla Desh The Bangladesh War, also known as the Liberation War, lasted only 9 months, stemming from an election in which West Pakistan refused to acknowledge East Pakistans majority and their wishes for independence. West Pakistan began a crackdown on the East Pakistani which escalated until the 26th March, when East Pakistan proclaimed their Declaration of Bangladeshi Independence. The war claimed the lives of an unknown number of people. estimated between 300,000 and 3 million, this on top of a cyclone, a famine and a cholera outbreak in 1970 lasting into 1971 which had already claimed at least half a million lives, the human cost of just two years is still felt to this day.
