Alto Choir Practice: “Ode to Joy“, “Ode an die Freude“, from the musical setting by Ludwig van Beethoven in the final movement of his Ninth Symphony (completed in 1824). The words sung during the final movement are taken from the “Ode to Joy“, a poem written by Friedrich Schiller celebrating the brotherhood and unity of all mankind.
The Beethoven setting was adopted as the Anthem of the European Union.
