Conservatives push for investigation into alleged RCMP, Liberal interference in N.S. shooting probe

Speaking during Question Period in the House of Commons Wednesday, Interim Conservative Leader Candice Bergen called on the Liberals on to hold a full, transparent investigation amid reports RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki and the former public safety minister, Bill Blair, interfered in the investigation into the Nova Scotia mass shooting in order to push gun control measures. Blair, the current emergency preparedness minister, responded saying the government “at no point“ pressured or interfered in the “operational decisions of the RCMP.“ The questions were raised after a new report Tuesday by the inquiry into the 2020 shooting revealed notes from a meeting among senior RCMP leadership 10 days after the shooting, which revealed Lucki said she had promised then-public safety minister Bill Blair and the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) that police would release information about the firearms used by the shooter.
