United States determined to ‘protect Israel’s interest’ at UN Security Council

ANU Arab and Islamic Studies Researcher Ian Parmeter says the United States was determined to “protect Israel’s interest” at the United Nations Security Council. Despite growing calls for a ceasefire Israel has vowed to ramp up fighting inside Gaza until Hamas is removed from power. “The United States was determined to protect Israel’s interest at the UN security council,” Mr Parmeter told Sky News Australia. “Israel did not want to be forced into a ceasefire which would have course interrupted its campaign of military action against Hamas. “Israel believes that the military action will actually force Hamas to make concessions.”
