The result is what you see here. The largest error was that 4 tracks attributed to Doc & Merle Watson are in fact someone else, though Doc and/or Merle may be onstage. The identity of the lead vocalist on these tracks has not been determined for certain at this time. There are strongly held but conflicting opinions on a couple sides of the issue. Googling the combination of songs played by this act gives two results: Mr. Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys, and Clarence White/the White Brothers. It’s not Mr. Monroe and Clarence died tragically the year before this. So who knows? Two songs incorrectly attributed to the Great American String Band were part of Jim & Jesse McReynolds’ regular repertoire and are clearly performed by them. Based on conversation with an individual who convincingly claims attendance at most of the festival, some dates have been clarified. Note that some acts performed both days. A few song titles have also been corrected. A few songs by the groups Cornbread and the Homestead Act which are in the original fileset are omitted here. I’m not really sure how or why that happened but I’m not going to track them down at this point. There are numerous fade- and cut-ins and outs from a happy trigger finger on the pause button. Only those where a significant amount of music seems to be missing have been noted. Given that these are not from master reels, perhaps we can hope that eventually a more complete source will come into circulation! re-FLAC’d with corrected tags and new sequence by Mr. Completely, fall 2008.
