The summer of 2023 was a turning point for me. As part of a team of experienced photographers, I embarked on an incredible journey to the island of sperm whales to observe the lives of these amazing creatures. It was a real expedition that required not only professional skills but also patience. Every morning we went out to sea, hoping to find sperm whales, spending several hours at sea in anticipation of the long-awaited encounter. To search for them, we used a hydrophone. And every time our hearts stopped when we heard the clicks - the language of communication of sperm whales. We observed passing herds of whales. But the most interesting part started when we dived into the water. We saw huge heads of sperm whales, marks on their faces from deadly battles for life left by squids. Their huge teeth, weighing up to a kilogram, were scary but also amazed us with their power. We dived into fecal masses and caught peeling skin and fatty whale milk in our palms.
