The Seventh-day Adventist Church emerged from the Millerite movement in the United States during the mid-19th century. After the Great Disappointment in 1844, when Jesus Christ did not return as predicted by preacher William Miller, a group of Millerites continued to study the Bible and eventually formed the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Ellen G. White, one of the church’s co-founders, played a pivotal role in shaping its doctrines and practices through her writings and visions. Interesting Fact: George McCready Price is a Canadian-born Seventh-day Adventist who pioneered the idea of a young earth in the early twentieth century. He laid the foundation for modern “creation science“ and was known to blame evolution for socialism and communism.
