How to Make a Pencil Cup with a CNC Router | Mid Century Modern Design

In this video I show how I made a Modern Design Pencil Cup with a CNC Router. It all started because I wanted to use a Mid Century pattern on some sort of 3D object. I settled on a pencil cup because it was small and if it worked out, it could serve as a gift for the 2017 holiday season. I used Walnut and Ash, but any contrasting wood species would have worked. I consider this to be within the “Modern“ style because that is where I took my pattern design cues from. I especially like the work of American furniture designers and furniture manufacturers that influenced the design world in the 1950’s and early 1960’s. A few of my favorites are Charles and Rae Eames, and George Nelson. Also companies like Herman Miller and Heywood Wakefield. I will admit that I have a real passion for Modernistic design!
