Early 1996 Final Fantasy VII Japanese PlayStation Commercial ファイナルファンタジーVII プレイステーション CM 1080p 60fps

This is an early 60-second ad for Final Fantasy VII that places a lot of emphasis on the leap from 2D to 3D, the leap from Nintendo consoles to Sony’s first home gaming platform. If you played the original PlayStation game for hundreds of hours like myself, then so many images and sounds are etched into your brain until the day you if that’s the case, you IMMEDIATELY notice the differences in how the game looks in this commercial. Midgar is less detailed, Cloud’s hair is shorter, he kind of walks funny, the buster sword is just a gray of neat little things that were eventually changed for the final release. I’m guessing the footage here was from beta builds--the original release date was stated as December of 1996 here, and the game didn’t come out in Japan until the end of January of 1997. Must have been some insane crunch times. This footage is from the Famitsu PS Soukan Kinen Special Video, which I’ll eventually upload to this channel. #
