JLG Cinma Cinmas (1987)

It consists of a collection of episodes, edited in a surprising achronological way, from “Cinéma cinémas“ and other documents, including the following: Godard 87 by Guy Girard and Michel Boujut Ecrire by André S. Labarthe Les Carabiniers 87 by P.O. Levy Pour le plaisir by J. Doniol-Valcroze Vive le cinema by Patrick Camus Cinéastes de notre temps by Hubert Knapp and Robert Valey (There’s also the notable credit: “collaboration Serge le Péron“) It opens with the announcement of the Prix Jean Vigo in 1960 for BREATHLESS and ends up to the minute it was made, 1987, with Godard in his Rolle studio comparing the Vietnam war films of Santiago Alvarez and Stanley Kubrick (Kubrick comes off quite badly, and through this invidious comparison one is introduced to the glories of Alvarez, never to look back again). There are interviews with Veronique Godard (JLG’s sister), Anne Wiazemsky, Menahem Golan, Anna Karina, and the man himself who, among other things, is seen at work on what would become his magnificent HISTOIRE(S) DU CINEMA, sparking fire with folders and folders of images. We also have the famous clip of “Godard berating his crew during the shooting of DETECTIVE“
