The Garden: Vans Sidestripe Sessions | VANS

This week’s session features music from twin brothers Fletcher and Wyatt Shears. The brothers formed The Garden back in 2011, in Orange County, California. Since then, the duo has been fully committed to writing, touring, and finding deliverance through their fast-pace art-punk sound. They’ve created a term for their DIY beliefs, Vava Vada. “Vada Vada represents total freedom of expression without boundaries or guidelines of any sort.“ The Garden’s discography covers four EPs and four studio albums, including their latest Kiss My Super Bowl Ring. Kiss My Super Bowl Ring dropped on March 13th via Epitaph Records. Pitchfork described the album as “a frenetic collection of songs that grapple with existential woes and cathartic rage,“ while also noting their pop sensibility, “on songs like the rip-roaring “AMPM Truck,“ where Wyatt’s melodic bass lines and Fletcher’s snappy drumming take the forefront.“ Learn more about The Garden on their site: Art from this week’s episode comes from Eric McHenry. Born in North Carolina, Los Angeles artist Eric McHenry was influenced at a young age to experiment with art. His mother, an elementary school teacher, provided Eric with encouragement and supplies to explore his creativity. Along with his mother, McHenry notes a variety of influences from NBA star Scottie Pippen to Walt Disney. McHenry’s art exhibits a sense of humor and innovation. His first solo show titled “The Terrible Tusk Show“ in 2014 showcased his ability to mix watercolors, drawings, and media collage. McHenry also has a love of skateboarding and skate art.
