Russia: Drone footage captures extent of oil spill near Novorossiysk

A criminal investigation into marine pollution is underway after an oil spill in the Black Sea near Novorossiysk, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation reported on Wednesday. According to the committee, an investigative team immediately went to the scene of the incident to inspect the area and take samples. Drone footage shows the extent of the oil spill, alongside work being undertaken to clean up the polluted areas. The oil spill took place on Saturday, August 7th, when the Greek vessel Minerva Symphony was loading at the terminal of the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC), approximately six kilometres from the coastline. Reports say the internal cavity of the hydraulic compensator collapsed in the remote mooring device. Initially, the CPC reported that the spill area covered some 200 square metres.
