Contrasts In Black And White At Wembley (1924)

Wembley. Intertitle reads: “North or South - East or West, whether they’re dusky beauties from Africa or Europe’s modern maids - all have the same love of fine clothes - “. Four African women in traditional dress pose with five European women. Some of the African women then appear dressed in Western clothes. M. Paul Poiret the famous fashion creator presents a new “Empire coiffure“ and proposes that next year it may be popular throughout the world. He takes a hat off one of the European women and shows his new style. He then speaks to the African women about the style and shakes hands with one of them. The African women are then shown some European fashions - one of the women laughs, the others looks very serious - looks to me like they have been told to look serious.
