When John Goldsby moved to New York City in 1980, he had opportunities to play with many big bands—Bob Wilbur,Toshiko Akiyoshi, the American Jazz Orchestra (led by John Lewis), Louie Bellson, among others. He developed a deep love for the music of Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk—two giants of modern music. Here John presents his personal sound—his take on the composition “Let’s Call This,” by Thelonious Monk, arranged by John Clayton.
