How to make a snowflake ceramic dish with crochet doily pressed in clay #satisfying #pottery #art

Did you know that no two snowflakes are exactly the same? They are unique as fingerprints, as different as each of us. All different, yet all perfect in their own way. I can’t think of anything that represents the beauty of winter more than a snowflake - those delicate crystals forming breathtaking beauty, each one a tiny miracle. These snowflake dishes are each a bit different as well. I did 6 different designs to represent the six-fold symmetry of snowflakes (each snowflake has 6 points, or sometimes 12). They are started with handmade doilies in the shape of snowflakes - I press them into soft clay capturing the beautiful (and sometimes surprising) impressions of the fabric snowflakes. Then I color them with a combination of watered down underglaze and color stains. Each piece is then glazed and fired in a pottery kiln to 2200°F/1200°C where the glaze transforms into a layer of glass. Real gold accents are added and melted onto the piece in a final firing of the kiln #snowflakes #holidays
